Referring to K.Wejchert (who referred so much to K.Lynch), city nodes are these wonderful areas giving us a wide bunch of spatial referrences, improving navigation, enabling short-time
flaneur (e.g. while
waiting for tram
). These
values are important part of urban life of western-world societies.
Let's look at the relative capacity of most important nodes of Wrocław's center. It is presented for part of tram movement during morning peak (7-9 a.m.) on workdays. The methodology is described in "Borders of the city center" post.


We could imagine, that these nodes demand special urban treatment - significant points, arrangement facilitating transfer between stops, safety of pedestrians, bike stands, parkings... We can see how does it look like presently:


When the autoroute belt (AOW) is open (june 2011), considerable part of car traffic will move out of the city. Wrocław's development could spread"the good image" of the city out from the city center, and redesign these squares. Currently, they define the border of "in", and "out".
