According to orto-photos it was possible to estimate average height of buildings in areas drawn on the map, and see what happens to the skyline.


METHODOLOGY
starting with the downtown, going outwards in four basic directions, estimated heights were assigned. Heights contain values from 5(for small industry) to 40 (for churches), and further they rely on newspaper knowledge about higher points. As the heights were assigned, the extrusion was proceeded according to (height) ^ 1.5 + 15. Because of that, the higher the point gets, the bigger the difference is. For 5 areas exceeding 60m the top point was taken. For gothic churches and towers, height of the nave's roof defined the total height. For legibility chimneys of power plant wer not taken into consideration.
IDEAS
- first thing is the amazing power of the phallic form in the front (axonometry). We were proud of the highest appartment tower in Poland 3 years ago (presently under construction) , but it is highly possible it will become Silesian Palace of Culture for a long time. There is a plan of building the whole row of towers, so the story would get some dynamism. Let the time tiktak.
- second thing is "urban height section" - what would we get out of a section done on a height model in 10 directions (for example with one end in the center)? Would it say something about density, compression, or should we just control it not to raise backwards? Is there any scenario of height in the city? A gate leading to woods.
